During World War II, many families across the United States planted "Victory Gardens" to show support for the War effort and to provide needed food for US citizens. The Wig Bank home, located at 226 Mulberry Street, SW, was the site of a very productive Victory Garden that included cabbage, peas, beans, and tomatoes. Although there is no longer a vegetable garden at The Wig Bank home, a high school senior recently researched the medicinal benefits of herbs for treating cancer patients' negative symptoms and decided to plant an herb garden to be used by Wig Bank patients. With care, watering, and a sunny location, the herbs, including rosemary, lemon balm, basil, oregano, etc., are thriving.
In order to make our own "Victory Garden" a beautiful place for visitors to enjoy, we plan to build a wall with personalized bricks. These bricks may be purchased and placed in the Victory Garden in memory or honor of loved ones. Priced at only $35 per brick, this is a meaningful way to honor special individuals. Check our site for updates as the wall is constructed.
We are now taking orders for bricks to be placed in the Victory Garden. If you are interested in purchasing a brick, please fill out the attached form and send it to: 226 Mulberry Street SW, Lenoir, NC 28645, Attention: Sandra Williams. Questions may be directed to: info@wigbank.org. Please include a check for $35 for each brick, payable to: The Wig Bank of Caldwell County.
